Murata Designs 01005 Inductor for High Frequency Circuits
Advancements in Micro-Fabrication Technology and Internal Coil Formation Create Miniature Inductor
Smyrna, GA, January 16, 2007 - Murata Electronics North America, a world-leading innovator in electronics and the largest global supplier of ceramic passive components, today introduced the LQP02TN Series Chip Inductor 01005 sized. By utilizing Murata’s advanced micro-fabrication technology and optimizing the internal coil formation, the inductor’s dimensions are a mere 0.4mm x 0.2mm x 0.2mm. As such, this allows a 40 percent reduction in mounting space when compared to conventional 0201 Electronic Industries Association (EIA) sized inductors. The LQP02TN series is ideal for use in high frequency circuits found in compact mobile equipment such as cellular phones (Power Amplifier/Antenna/Voltage Controlled Oscillators/Surface Acoustic Wave/Bluetooth, etc.), digital TV tuners and wireless LAN devices.
“Murata’s ability to push the miniaturization envelope with the 01005 inductors permits original equipment manufacturers to make smaller, lower profile products,” said Deryl Kimbro, product manager for Murata Electronics North America. “Because of our commitment to providing customers with the most advanced products, this size reduction does not come at the expense of high performance.”
In addition to the smaller, more compact size, the ROHS compliant LQP02TN series offers high Q characteristics and stable inductance despite the dramatic footprint reduction. The inductance is between 0.4nH to 10nH, with a tolerance of ±0.3nH/±5%. Sample prices are available for five cents. Lead time is approximately six to eight weeks.
Murata offers a variety of coils/inductors, including choke coils with low DC resistance for power supply circuits, general-purpose chip coils suitable for voltage increases and high-frequency chip coils that provide low-loss and high-Q characteristics at high frequencies. Users can select the optimum characteristics by choosing from monolithic, film or wire wound construction and a wide range of inductance values and tolerances, with some types allowing for magnetic shielding. In addition to traditional chip coils, Murata also provides a range of miniature delay lines offering excellent delay accuracy.
