Murata Develops Low Cost DC-DC Converter
Advanced Design Provides High Efficiency and Small Footprint; Ideal for Digital Consumer Home Electronics

Smyrna, GA, February 25, 2008 - Murata Electronics North America, a world-leading innovator in electronics and the largest global supplier of ceramic passive components and dc-dc converters, today introduced the new MPD6S022S DC-DC converter. Developed with advanced circuit design techniques, the *022S offers quality performance at a low cost. MPD6S022S DC-DC converter This Point-of-Load (POL) non-isolated converter measures only 21mm x 9mm x 21mm in a SIL package, minimizing layout real estate. It also delivers 10.8W with high efficiency (up to 95 percent) and zero de-rating. These attributes combined with the wide 3 to 5.5V input voltage range, wide adjustable 1.1 to 3.6 volt output range and 0 to 70 degree C operating temperature range make it ideal for use in digital consumer home electronics such as televisions, DVD players and more.

Another benefit of this innovative design is that the DC-DC converter does not require an external capacitor, saving valuable board space. Conventional solutions must include large external capacitors to minimize a converter’s output-voltage variation in response to load-current changes.

“Murata’s 20 years of power-supply manufacturing experience are evident in this miniaturized and economical DC-DC converter,” said Bill Kutsche, group product manager of module products for Murata Electronics North America. “The new MPD6S022S highlights the strength of Murata’s commitment to research and development in areas of circuit design and ferrite and ceramic materials.”

Specific characteristics of Murata’s new MPD6S DC-DC converters include:

  • Dimensions: 21mm x9mm x21mm
  • Vin: 3-5.5V
  • Vout: 1.1-3.6V/3A ---adjustable by external resister
  • MAX. Power : 10.8W
  • Protection: short circuit
  • RoHS6 compliant
The MPD6S022S is offered at a $2.08 price (in volume quantities). Additional product specifications and other information can be found on-line at www.murata.com/power/index.html. Lead time is approximately eight to 12 weeks.

Enabled by its core competencies in materials technologies and manufacturing knowledge, Murata offers miniaturized, low profile, high efficiency, industry-standard DC-DC converters for a variety of applications such as telecom and data-com infrastructure equipment. Details on power components are available on Murata’s new up-dated Web site, which provides a full product listing complete with data sheets, product catalogs and application manuals.
