Murata Introduces Low-Profile High-Efficiency 24 Volt Input DC-DC Converters with Parallel Operation
Small Footprint Packed with Advanced Technology is Well Suited for Telecommunications and Data Communications Markets

Smyrna, GA, March 18, 2008 - Murata Electronics North America, a world-leading innovator in electronics and the largest global supplier of ceramic passive components and DC-DC converters, today introduced the new MPD6D20*S DC-DC converter. Designed with a patented synchronous rectifier circuit, these devices achieve a 91 percent efficiency level which minimize excessive power consumption. MPD6D20*S DC-DC ConverterThe series offers parallel operation as a standard I-sharing feature (up to 5 devices) and simplifies the implementation with an integrated reverse current prevention circuit. Ideal for use in telecommunications and data communications markets with its small size (40.05 mm x 31.15mm x 8.0mm MAX.), not only is board space saved, but no optical couplers are utilized, thus increasing reliability. This superior reliability is important for base station manufacturers and test and instrumentation equipment.

In addition to its compact surface mount device (SMD) package, parallel operation (PO), high efficiency and reliability characteristics, the Murata MPD6D20*S also provides numerous other benefits for design engineers. For example, start-up times can be easily synchronized with other module(s) by connecting the devices’ PO pins. Additionally, integrated input and output capacitors and EMI filtering circuits eliminate EMI noise issues as well as the need for external components. Also, utilizing a planar transformer via the multi-layer printed circuit board, the converter offers thin and stable coil quality. Murata’s new converter also comes with a remote on/off switching and alarm signal output features.

“Murata’s use of highly developed circuit design techniques, vertical integration and advanced ceramic and ferrite materials ensures the most sophisticated DC-DC converter solutions,” said Bill Kutsche, group product manager of module products for Murata Electronics North America. “Further, all of our DC-DC converters are manufactured entirely in-house at multiple manufacturing locations which enables consistent and reliable lead-times and redundant manufacturing capacity.”
