Murata Electronics North America Announces New 48 Volt DC-DC Converters for Optimal Power Scalability
Key Features Include Parallel Operation and Low-Profile Design
Smyrna, GA, March 31, 2008 - Murata Electronics North America, a world-leading innovator in electronics and the largest global supplier of ceramic passive components and power supplies, today introduced the new MPD7D06*S 48 volt input isolated DC-DC converter series. Developed to provide optimal power selection flexibility, the new device allows engineers to easily scale from low to high power and vice-versa in the design stage. This saves valuable time and money during the board layout and presents the opportunity to add new features or make changes without altering said layout. This ability is especially appealing to router, computer server, optical backbone, FTTx, Public Branch Exchange (PBX) and fixed wireless access applications.
The increased scalability is enabled by the MPD7D06*S’s parallel operation feature and footprint compatibility with the 10W MPD6D10*S series and the 15W MPD6D11*S series DC-DC converters. Scaling up in power for up to 5 devices, this 35-watt DC-DC converter can current share up to 175-watts. For additional flexibility, the engineer can switch in Murata’s 10-watt or 15-watt DC-DC solutions without board layout changes. Further, the small size (40.05 mm x 31.15mm x 8.0mm MAX.) in a surface mount package gives engineers more layout options such as front-and-back board mounting to save valuable board space.
“With this new converter, Murata provides customers with more of one of the largest offerings of parallel operation - featured DC-DC converters in the marketplace,” said Bill Kutsche, group product manager of module products for Murata Electronics North America. “Our drive to provide the most advanced power modules allows Murata to continually develop designs that best fit the needs of our customers.”
The Murata MPD7D06*S also presents increased reliability because no optical couplers are needed and improved EMI noise filtering with the use of integrated input and output capacitors. Additionally, start-up times are easily synchronized with other modules by connecting the devices’ parallel operation pins. The converter also utilizes a planar transformer via the multi-layer printed circuit board to permit thin and stable coil quality.
