Murata Electronics Introduces World's First 1.0uF 0.9 X 0.6 Capacitor Array (EIA Size 0302)
Addition to GNM Series Tailored for Mobile Phone, PC and AV Equipment Markets

Smyrna, GA, June 16, 2008 - Murata Electronics North America, a world-leading innovator in electronics and the largest global supplier of ceramic passive components and DC-DC converters, today introduced the world’s first 1.0uF 0.9 x 0.6 mm two element capacitor array. Capacitor ArrayIdeal for reducing surface area and mounting costs, the new 0302-sized capacitor array boasts the popular 1.0μF static capacitance. This achievement is unprecedented – even for a single 0.6 x 0.3 mm (EIA size 0201) monolithic ceramic capacitor. Given that, this model is well suited to be a decoupling capacitor for mobile phones and PCs, as well as digital audio visual equipment.

Miniaturization and high performance features continue to be a driving force in terms of developing smaller and higher capacitance monolithic ceramic capacitors. Due to its design structure, a capacitor array can realize static capacitance more readily than its single monolithic counterpart. Specifically, by applying Murata Electronics’ proprietary cutting-edge dielectric material technology, this 0302 two element product is able to achieve 1μF capacitance per element unlike standard 0201 sized capacitors.

“Murata is now the solid leader in the capacitor array product lineup with this small dual package component,” said Mark Waugh, senior product manager, capacitor group for Murata Electronic North America. “With Murata’s emphasis on research and development, we now offer this expanded product line-up that meets the demands of several growing markets like handheld devices.”

Specific features of Murata’s new Capacitor Array addition to the GNM series include:

  • 1uF cap value in a small dual value package
  • higher static capacitance compared with a single element model
  • reduced board surface area and placement cost due to high-density mounting
Samples are offered now. Volume quantities are available with a 10-week lead time. The GNM series is offered at $0.07 (for both sample and volume quantities). Additional product specifications on the GNM series and other Murata product information can be found on-line at www.murata.com.
